In our study on Job, it’s time to get a good understanding of the worldview of his friends. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar will remain totally fixed in their belief and application of the Retribution Principle: God punishes the wicked; all suffering is punishment for sin; there is no other explanation; God does not pervert justice; so – Job is suffering for his sin.

This perspective leaves no room for God’s ways that are higher than our ways. There must be space in our worldview for an incomprehensible God, for a supernatural being, for an unseen spiritual reality, for miracles, and for surprises.
