“I have overcome the world.” Wow. That’s how Jesus concluded His last message to His disciples. A good speaker knows that the last thing someone hears is the main thing they will remember. Jesus summarized His mission and declared the reality of His success with His declaration: “I have overcome the world.”
Jesus’ confident conclusion wasn’t wishful thinking, or a pep talk; it was the truth of what He was about to accomplish. Jesus’ victory was absolutely certain and could be stated as already completed: Victory!
His victory belongs to us too. Jesus didn’t leave us to fight the battles of the world on our own. We can’t win on our own. But Jesus, in His victory, rescued us from the enemy, brought us into His family, and gives us what we need day by day to face the ongoing troubles of the world.
Hallelujah!
My lecture will review Jesus’ last message and highlight a few more points about His last declaration. Celebrate His victory!
