Luke 22:1-20 – New Covenant Sacrifice

Do you know and rejoice in the blessings of the New Covenant? It’s a promise from God that has been made possible by the blood of Jesus. His death was the authorization and inauguration of the covenant declared through Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Ezekiel 36:25-28. In Bible times, a covenant was like our contract today, and the signing of that contract was done through a blood sacrifice. This was a symbol of what would happen to the one who broke the covenant.

In my lecture, I will review the background of the Last Supper – the Passover, and then consider the details of the wonderful New Covenant. It was declared by God to the nation of Israel; when they accept Jesus as their Messiah, they will receive all the blessings promised to them. Until then, all who trust in Jesus Christ as Savior (the church – which includes Jews and Gentiles) receive the spiritual blessings it provides.

What a truly amazing promise made by God – that He would provide a complete transformation of our hearts by giving us His Holy Spirit and forgiving us of our sins!
