In our study on Job, it’s time to get a good understanding of the worldview of his friends. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar will remain totally fixed in their belief and application of the Retribution Principle: God punishes the wicked; all suffering is punishment for sin; there is no other explanation; God does not pervert justice; so – Job is suffering for his sin.

This perspective leaves no room for God’s ways that are higher than our ways. But – there must be space in our worldview for an incomprehensible God, for a supernatural being, for an unseen spiritual reality, for miracles, and for surprises.
