Can you imagine Jesus’ burden for His disciples right before His death? He knew what was about to happen and why. As you study John 14-16, you will learn how Jesus prepared His disciples for life after His death, resurrection, and ascension. You will better understand His incredible promise that the Father would send the Holy Spirit. You will grasp, as the disciples did, that you cannot do anything on your own, but must be dependent on Jesus, through His Holy Spirit, to do what He has commanded. And that is – to bear much fruit. To love as He loved.

Join me in this in-depth study of Jesus’ private message to His disciples on the eve of His arrest. You’ll find that it was spoken for you as well. Jesus’ exhortation to “Abide in Me” is a precious opportunity for intimacy with Him.

I appreciate the following endorsements for this study:

Elizabeth Ficken’s deep knowledge and love for the Bible shines through in each of her in-depth studies. Using her gifts of teaching and diving deep into God’s Word, Elizabeth has taken the familiar passages and teaching of John 14, 15, and 16 and brings a new level of richness and understanding to them. This study will help any woman desiring a deeper understanding of God’s Word to see more clearly the love and promises of God in this precious message from Jesus. Chrissy Morton, Former CRU Missionary Intern, Women’s Bible Study leader, wife, mother of 3, The Shepherd’s Church, Cary, NC

Having enthusiastically employed Elizabeth Ficken’s Letters to the Thessalonians study in our church’s Women’s Ministry, I am delighted to endorse Abide in Me. With extensive research and engaging explanations of the text, Elizabeth not only expertly and expositionally guides the minds of women eager to plumb the depths of God’s Word, but she also passionately exhorts sisters to pray for and share the joy of discovering true and everlasting love in Christ, supernatural dependence on the power of Holy Spirit, and our sure hope of heaven from God the Father in the midst of earthly sorrows – so needed for every believer!  Tracy Lee, Women’s Ministry Leader, Pastor’s wife, Rooted Church,  a multi-ethnic church, Cary, NC

Elizabeth Ficken is a gifted teacher, and that is evident in her Bible studies. Each study is a perfect blend of theological depth and practical insight. If you want to know God’s Word accurately, and understand its implications for your life, this study will help you do both.  Scott Wylie, Radio Broadcast Host, Wisdom for the Heart, Cary NC

And it is so special that my daughter wrote the following foreword for this study:

My mother is a Bible teacher. Before she started writing studies, before she attended seminary, she was teaching the Bible. I know she was teaching before she even had me, but I can only speak to the days, months, years that I was one of her primary students. If she had just read something interesting, she would pull out a Bible at the kitchen table to tell us about it. If we were on the way home from church, she would turn around from the passenger seat to help expound, explain, and discuss the sermon.

If I had to pick one word that wove through all her teaching, year after year as she studied and grew and wrote and taught, it would be “abide.” This word in particular, and this word nestled in the context of John 15, seemed to connect to every lesson she shared with me. There is no denying what this scripture means to her. It comes out in every context of her life, most importantly in the way that she lives. She abides in Christ.

John 14-16 is a personal, intimate address from Jesus to His disciples. This is His final   teaching and final preparation for His disciples who have followed and trusted Him  throughout His ministry. Who will help them in His absence? What does following the   commands of Jesus really mean for their lives? What hope does Jesus give them right before He departs? What does “abide” even mean?

Because my mother cares so deeply about these chapters and truths, she handles them with reverence and weight. I trust her own devotion and dependence on Jesus Christ, so be  assured that she is a well-equipped guide as you journey with her through the words of Jesus.    — Emily Nelsen, Bible study author and teacher, The Summit Church, Apex, NC
