One of the things that Jesus teaches us about God is that He is sovereign. He is Lord over Heaven and Earth and does what He pleases, and sometimes it is hard for us to understand why He does what He does.

In Matthew 11: 25-28, Jesus first prays to God and then speaks to us. He praises God because He has “hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children.” And then Jesus offers an invitation to “all of you who are weary and burdened”. He says: “Come to Me and I will give you rest.”

The sovereign choices of God are side by side with an invitation to salvation, and an opportunity for mankind to respond. This is a deep truth which we cannot completely comprehend.

Our God is good and wise. Jesus offers rest to us. Let’s respond and take Him up on that offer. And once you’ve come to Jesus, make sure you let go of the burdens that have been wearying you.
