Revelation 1 – Focus on Jesus

John, the beloved disciple, was exiled on Patmos. He called himself a brother to the believers in the churches and a partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance of Jesus Christ.

John was suffering under persecution. There are no complaints from him in the book of Revelation, but the fact of his exile is clearly stated by him, and it had to be painful to be removed from his place of ministry. Domitian, the emperor of Rome at the time, banished Paul from Ephesus to Patmos.

In my lecture in the video below, I’ll consider John’s situation of suffering, and what Jesus did. How did Jesus approach John? What did He say? How did He appear?

When we are suffering, we need to focus on Who Jesus is.

special note: before presenting my lecture, I shared a youtube video by Dr. Mark Hitchcock – The Origin of Revelation – Unvraveling Mysteries on Patmos. It gives some background of the island, John’s banishment, and dating of Revelation.
